EMP Threat: Are you Living in a Castle Built on Electric Sand?

All the technology that makes modern life possible can be destroyed in a moment by an Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP), so better pay attention to yet another lethal threat breathing down your neck.

An EMP can turn your life into one long blackout. Without electricity, most people can’t get food, water, money, or news. Raw sewage would pile up and communication would have to be by carrier pigeon or Pony Express.

Do you think America’s enemies realize this?

logoThe support system you rely on to live is truly a castle built on sand. Congress is not likely to do anything about it, so you’d better  prepare yourself to live off the grid.

This isn’t a conspiracy theory. Government experts have issued warnings, but people are not paying attention — too distracted by their electronic gadgets and life as usual.

Blasting Us Into the Dark Ages

An electromagnetic pulse from the sun, such as the Carrington incident, can cripple the electric grid. But that seems too far away in space and time to worry about.

A more clear and present danger is a single nuclear blast high above the US that would wipe out electrical service and thrust us into the dark ages. Several nations that are pissed off at America have the capability to do this now.

“Until recently little attention has been paid to the ease of generating EMPs by detonating a nuclear weapon in orbit above the US and thus bringing our civilization to a cold, dark halt.” R. James Woolsey and Peter Vincent Pry, wrote in Forbes.

Woolsey is a former CIA director. Pry was Executive Director of the Task Force on National and Homeland Security. These guys are probably paying attention. They and other experts have been advising Congress to take immediate action for more than a decade, but nobody is listening.

“A natural EMP catastrophe or nuclear EMP attack could blackout the national electric grid for months or years and collapse all the other critical infrastructures — communications, transportation, banking and finance, food and water — necessary to sustain modern society and the lives of 310 million Americans,” says Pry.

It sounds like you’ll be glad later if you wean yourself from corporate electricity today.

Island Yourself

The advice from former FERC chief John Wellinghoff is to “Island yourself.” FERC is the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Wellinghoff says not to depend on the federal government to help you on this one.

simple-unhooked-livingFirst and foremost, take responsibility for yourself by learning how to live without electricity. To help you wrap your mind around this, I wrote, The Truth About Simple Unhooked Living. It will benefit you to know exactly how I did it without feeling disadvantaged or downtrodden.

People think my simple lifestyle was unreasonable and undesirable, but it’s starting to look like one of the smartest things I ever learned to do.

Next, focus on localized community micro-grids with your neighbors.

“People are beginning to understand that they need their own onsite capabilities to island themselves from the grid,” Wellinghoff says. “I am looking into how I can island myself off the grid. But it is not just me, the military is moving toward micro-grids at all of their bases because they understand the vulnerability of those bases to outages.”

Notice that the head of the nation’s electrical system is not depending on it. He is becoming self-reliant and telling others to do the same, so don’t say you haven’t been warned.

EMP Commission Tells Congress: Get Ready

The congressional EMP Commission addressed this issue in 2004 candlessmand 2008. They even met with senior Russian officials who admitted they helped North Korea develop EMP-attack capabilities.

“China and Russia have considered limited nuclear-attack options that, unlike their Cold War plans, employ EMP as the primary or sole means of attack,” according to an EMP Commission report. It further warns that: “Designs for variants of such weapons may have been illicitly trafficked for a quarter-century.”

Since then, NASA, the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and several subsequent independent researchers have concluded an EMP would likely kill millions who are relying on the electrical grid to live.

Read statements to a House Subcommittee on Homeland Security last May by experts on America’s electrical vulnerability.

Despite all these warnings, Congress is either unable or unwilling to pass a law to protect you from an EMP incident.

The Critical Infrastructure Protection Act was introduced last October but never came up for a vote.

The Secure High-Voltage Infrastructure Electricity from Lethal Damage act (SHIELD) stalled passed the House but stalled in the Senate.

So it’s clear that your best hope for surviving an EMP is to fend for yourself.

Read my book The Truth About Simple Unhooked Living to find out how nicely life can go on for the prepared, even without a generator. It doesn’t take a lot of money to get set up. The e-book is only $3.99, so get it before the grid goes down.
