Human Pee With Ash Is a Natural Fertilizer, Study Says

See on Scoop.itPrepping and Thriving via Smart Simple Living

Want a gorgeous garden? Just add pee, according to a new study that says nitrogen-rich urine and magnesium-rich ash work together to form a powerful—and cheap—fertilizer.

Unhooked Living‘s insight:

Old story (2009) but still fun: Pee on your plants. Scientist say tomatoes fertilized with urine and ash yielded nearly four times more fruit than nonfertilized plants. Testers say the tomatoes taste just fine. Urine applied alone produces a slightly greater yield than urine and ash together. Researchers say a single person could supply enough urine to fertilize roughly 6,300 tomato plants a year! The researchers are now trying to implement this idea in Nepal, (good mental image there, lol).
