Prepare, Sustain, Thrive and Survive Simply

The eys of the two-headed beast

Have you ever been in a box store with a question about a product, but can’t find anybody to ask? Those days
will soon be over. Just give a shout out for help on your smart phone, and Digital Indoor Positioning will cause a salesperson to come running over. It’s frustrating not to have help when you need it, so people will welcome this intrusion of their privacy with open arms.

The invasion will be carried out by a new suite of apps that pinpoint and track your exact location in a building, making it as easy to watch your every move in real life as it is on the web.

Companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft, e-Bay, Best Buy, Target, Walgreen and more are now investing in technology that reveals your behaviors and habits in detail, saying they will use data to personalize services, provide action-based rewards, and entice you to buy items via an “augmented shopping experience.”

There will be invisible geofences that alert stores when you arrive, and items inside will be geotagged so you can find them easily. Convenient, right? No word how long they will be tracking you after you leave the store, or if your post-shopping behaviors will be stored in a database as well.

This comes at the same moment that Google’s latest Transparency Report shows that the government’s requests
for private data on citizens more than doubled in the past three years. Sixty-eight percent of requests are being made under Electronic Communications Privacy Act subpoenas, which typically do not require a judge to permit access to your property or privacy, according to Google’s bi-annual report discussed an article posted by The Guardian

The article says Google’s bi-annual report also contains a separate section about content the government requests to be removed from search results.
